English 101 Assignment#1

After reading the two sample Educational Narratives I have found that I can certainly use parts of each of them as a model for my first paper assignment.
I really liked the way that the Computer Programming narrative was set up.  The author stating exactly what he wanted to express in the piece struck me in a positive way because it prepared me for what I was about to read as well as giving me another perspective that may have been different from one i could have came up with on my own.  I believe that that was a perfect start to a paper and I would like to start my first paper in a similar way.  I also like the fact that the author gave a small backround to his story to make it more personal and give an answer to how and why he started computer programming and creating websites.   Once I begin my first big writing assignment I would like to answer the questions why I learned what  I learned, how I learned it, when I learned it and what made me want to learn about it.  By giving backround information I will be able to answer these questions just as Feross did.
I also found a few aspects of the second narrative that I liked and can use in my own work such as describing obstacles and providing solutions.  Every interesting story has a problem that needs to be solved and I can use that in my paper to provide a sense of accomplishment.  I also really liked that at the end of the second narrative, Joshua J. Romero concludes by telling the reader what he got from the entire experience of becoming google free and how it affected him.  This is very appealing to me because it is very important in my life to learn a lesson from every experience and that is something that i will be expressing in my future assignments.

  1. Interesting thoughts about learning from experience--we'll be looking at a lot of that this quarter!

  2. I'm in agreement with Dr. Begert about your thoughts on learning from experience. I also like the questions you've set up for yourself as well because it'll make for a thorough paper. I'm going to do the same. Well done.

  3. Asking questions about yourself is a good way to start a paper! it gives you a good foundation. And giving info about the background is a good way to draw in a reader!
